Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I updated to Windows 10 with a clean installation, and it's all working very well.  I have the lastest Realtek HD Audio drivers installed (Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver v6.0.1.7564 A 1, 17.8.2015).

The microphone is working well with Voice Recorder Resolving Microphone Problems (Windows 10, 😎, which I have worked through.

My issue is to do with Skype, but it's also linked to the hardware/software/Windows 10.

Windows 10 comes with Skype Video as an App, which requires a Microsoft Account to use it.  I already had a Skype account which I seemed unable to link to my Microsoft Account/Skype Video app, and nor did I want to (not least because it was lnked to a different email address).  I just don't like that level of integration and wanted to use Skype as a standalone Windows program.

I read about removing Skype Video via Windows Powershell as an Administrator user, and I typed in the following commands (based on a Google search):

Skype Video & Messaging: Get-AppxPackage *Messaging* | Remove-AppxPackage

Phone: Get-AppxPackage *CommsPhone* |Remove-AppxPackage

Get Skype: Get-AppxPackage *skypeapp* | Remove-AppxPackage

Then I downloaded the Skype program for Windows (v7.26.0.101).

However I adjust the microphone settings (e.g. automatic/manual level setting), on the Echo/Sound Test Service the microphone is so low that I can hardly hear what I say.  I can hear the person I am calling very clearly.

I note that in Settings/Privacy/Microphone, Skype doesn't appear as an app to grant access to (of course the Skype Video app did).

Has anyone else had this problem?  What can I do to resolve it?

I've been able to answer my own question.  There was no problem with having removed the Windows 10 Skype Video app.

https://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Help-Windows-10-Microphone-not-working/m-p/415...

"turn off sound effects for the Realtek HD Audio microphone. This is done by the Control Panel command ‘sound’-> ‘recording’ tab -> select 'Realtek High Definition Audio microphone' and click on ‘properties’ ->on the ‘microphone’ pane select the ‘enhancements’ tab -> click the check box ‘disable all sound effects’ then click ‘OK’ on all of the panels back upto the sound panel."

You can also get to this just by right clicking the sound icon in the system tray and selecting Recording devices.  I also increased the Boost level to +10db, but I'm not sure that was necessary, as Skype (on automatic volume) adjusts the volume.

I hope this helps others.
