I used many headphones and speakers, but my computer didn't recognize the audio output devices and nothing showed up. (I also checked the device manager, but there was nothing.) The problem is, when I was using Win 10 on this computer, the aux worked, but it doesn't work on Win 11. Is there a driver for this, etc. I couldn't find it. I would appreciate it if you could help. Thank you.

Hello @selo159951
Thank you for the detailed follow-up—and I’m truly sorry the aux input still isn’t working despite all your efforts. You’ve done everything right by reinstalling drivers and checking device manager, and I understand how frustrating it is when the port remains inactive.
Since your device uses an EN-type audio jack, which typically supports both microphone and headphone (TRRS), the issue may be tied to how Windows 11 handles jack detection on newer driver stacks.
Let’s try a few deeper steps to help restore functionality:
Additional Steps to Restore Aux Input on EN-Type Jack
1. Install OEM Audio Driver from HP Support Site (Not Windows Update)
- Go to: HP Software and Driver Downloads
- Enter your laptop’s full model number.
- Select Windows 11 as the OS.
- Download and install the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver or Conexant SmartAudio HD, whichever is listed.
Windows Update may install generic drivers that lack jack detection support. The OEM version includes full audio stack integration.
2. Enable Jack Detection in Audio Console
- After installing the OEM driver, open:
- Realtek Audio Console or
- HP Audio Control
- Go to Connector Settings or Advanced Settings.
- Enable:
- Jack Detection
- Multi-streaming (if available)
- Plug in your headset and check if a pop-up appears asking to select the device type.
This setting ensures the EN-type jack is actively monitored for device insertion.
3. Force Audio Device Reinitialization
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the audio device > Uninstall device.
- Check “Delete the driver software for this device” (if available).
- Restart your PC.
- Reinstall the OEM driver from HP’s site.
This clears any residual configuration that may be blocking jack detection.
4. Test with TRS Headphones (2-ring plug)
- If you’ve been using TRRS (3-ring) headsets, try a basic TRS (2-ring) headphone.
- Some EN-type jacks respond better to simpler analog signals during detection.
5. Check Sound Settings After Insertion
- Go to Settings > System > Sound > Output.
- See if a new device appears when you plug in the headphones.
- If listed, select it manually.
Let me know how the system responds after installing the OEM driver and enabling jack detection. You’ve been incredibly thorough—and I’ll help you get this audio port working again.

Hi @selo159951
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
The aux input not working after upgrading to Windows 11 is likely due to missing or incompatible audio drivers—especially if the device isn’t listed in Device Manager. Reinstalling the correct Realtek or Conexant driver and enabling hidden devices should restore functionality.
Step-by-Step: Fix Aux Input Not Working in Windows 11
1. Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager
- Press Windows + X > select Device Manager.
- Click View > Show hidden devices.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Look for entries like:
- Realtek High Definition Audio
- Conexant SmartAudio HD
- Intel Smart Sound Technology
If nothing appears, the driver may be missing or disabled.
2. Install the Correct Audio Driver
Visit your laptop’s support page:
HP Software and Driver Downloads
Enter your product name or serial number.
Select Windows 11 as the OS.
Download and install the Realtek or Conexant audio driver listed.
This restores full audio stack support, including aux jack detection.
3. Run Audio Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Run the Playing Audio troubleshooter.
- Follow prompts and select Headphones or Line Out if listed.
This can re-enable disabled audio paths and detect missing drivers.
4. Enable Jack Detection in Audio Console
- After installing the driver, open:
- Realtek Audio Console or
- HP Audio Control
- Look for Connector Settings or Advanced Settings.
- Enable Jack Detection or Multi-streaming if available.
This ensures the aux port is actively monitored for device insertion.
5. Test with Known Working Headphones
- Plug in a standard 3.5mm headset (TRRS or TRS).
- Observe if Windows shows a new output device in Sound Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Sound > Output
- Select the newly detected device if listed
If no device appears, the port may still be inactive due to driver issues.
6. Update BIOS and Chipset (Optional)
- On the same HP support page, download:
- BIOS Update Utility
- Intel Chipset Driver
These updates improve hardware detection and compatibility with Windows 11.
Let me know how the system responds after installing the correct audio driver and enabling jack detection. If needed, I can guide you through checking audio services or testing with external USB sound cards.
You're doing everything right—this sequence should help restore aux input functionality.
