Hi,

I've been having some audio issues the past few days on my laptop and I've tried just about everything I can think of. Audio was fine until a few days back when it then started showing the red x over the icon in the system tray and throwing a Code 45 (device disconnected) error. I assumed it was update related but didn't see anything obvious in the update history. There was an OS update pending so I went ahead and installed that but still no good so I reverted it back again.

In the end I reset Windows (removing all files and cleaning the drive) but the issue persists. The Windows version it rest to is 1803 Build 17134.556. I have no Audio Inputs and Outputs listed in my Device Manager at all (I did previously but with the Code 45 error), it has reverted with Realtek High Def Audio Driver v6.0.1.8117 listed in Control Panel but nowhere in Device Manager. The Sound Controller in Device Manager is the Windows HD Audio which I belive is the generic MS one for HDMI playback. If I try to add the Realtek driver it throws a Code 10 (cannot start) error with the yellow warning triangle. Installing newer Realtek drivers also causes a BSOD reboot cycle during install.

-Tried updating the drivers listed in Device Manager but it says the best are installed.
- I have updated my BIOS from F16 to F17 and installed Chipset 10.1.1.38 Rev.B from the HP site but no good.
- Audio Troubleshooter does not resolve.
- Audio Services are running and set to automatic (also restarted them)
- Added Localservice and Networkservice to the local admins group.
- Removed the Upperfilters Reg value.
- Removed all audio drivers from Device Manager and rebooted.
-Running HP Diagnostics at Boot and testing the Audio Component would tell me 'This system does not support this test' or something to that effect. Sometimes I can get it to run but instead of beeps I hear a crackling audio for a second or so then it says the message again about system not supporting it.

I'm starting to think it could be a hardware issue but wanted to rule out any last ideas anyone may have? My other (older) laptop also experienced a few audio issues the day before this one did (which is why I instantly thought MS updates) but it sorted after a few reboots. It also appears that after resetting Windows it retains the previously installed drivers so it could still be a driver issue? Updating / Reverting / Resetting Windows did also show different audio devices (including speakers at one point just disconnected) so I'm not sure if it is still a software issue.

If anyone has any ideas on anything else I could try it would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks

@The_Sandman

Please do a clean install Audio softeware/driver, this should help.

(a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp93001-93500/sp93151.exe

(b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver and reboot,
(c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
(d) Reboot again.

Regards.

Hi Banhein,

Thanks for the reply.

I followed your instructions but still no good unfortunately. I tried the same step again but this time removed the ..8117 drivers from Add Remove Programs as well as Device Manager before installing your updated drivers. Still no Audio once rebooted and it didn't list your new one in Add Remove Programs after.

When I selected Update Driver it said I had the best available installed. When I asked it to search the directory containing your new driver it said the same. I then went to install Legacy Driver and installed the .8117 driver which then lists it in Device Manager with a Code 10 error. When I selected to update it hoping it would pick up your new one it again said I already had the best available. When I then said Browse to manually select the updated driver I picked the first .inf file in the directory and it listed a dozen or so drivers all called Realtek High Definition Driver. I again slected the first entry but during install it put me back into a BSOD loop.

I noticed on the install of your driver it stated it was for Windows 1809. I'm currently still on 1803. Should I try using MS Update Assistant and installing 1809 or do you have any other ideas?

Appreciate the help.

Thank you
