The audio is NOT working. There is a red "X" through the speaker and it says "NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVICE IS INSTALLED".
This keeps happeneing randomly 2-3 times ad day and gets gixed if I disable and enable the Conexant ISST Audio driver from device manager or restart my PC. The laptop is less than a month old and this problem is there from the start.
What I have observed:
1. The troubleshooter is useless. It comes back with nothing
2. When I hover over the sound icon "No audio devices are installed"
3. DEVICE MANAGER: under sound, video and game controllers, there are two listed: Conexant ISST Audio and Intel Display Audio. BOTH say the device is working properly and that the latest version of the drivers is installed. ALSO, there is no option to roll the drivers back (the option is grayed out) because this is a new computer so therefore, there was no previous driver.
4.In Device manager under Audio Inputs and Devices, the speaksers (Conexant ISST Audio) driver is missing, but it comes back if I disable and enable the Conexant ISST Audio driver in sound, video and game controllers from device manager or restart my PC.
5. ALl the drivers are the latest versions
6. The BIOS is the latest version
7. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sound driver (both from device manager and add/remove programs), it fixes the problem then but the red 'x' thing on the spekaer still keeps happening randomly.

Hi! @isj126, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand you have audio issues with your laptop.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your laptop?
Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.
As you mentioned you are getting NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVICE IS INSTALLED on your PC.
Please try the steps recommended below.
Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Audio, Video and Games Controllers
And find there Conexant audio card. Click on it with the right button of your mouse and choose ' Properties '.
Select ' Driver ' tab and select Roll Back Driver check if the issue persists.
Go to Windows Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers section.
In the list of audio device drivers, look for Conexant High-Definition Audio. This is the device driver for BeatsAudio (a little bit sneaky, wouldn’t you say?).
Right-click and select Disable. The downward arrow displays on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: At this point, you won’t be able to play any music files.)
Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
Select Browse my computer for driver software.
Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
You should see a window that says Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, exit the window and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.
In the Model box, highlight High Definition Audio Device (this is the substitute audio device driver) and click Next.
At the Update Driver Warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation window with High Definition Audio Device displayed. Click Close.
In the list of audio device drivers in the Sound, video and game controllers section, you’ll notice that the High Definition Audio Device now displays instead of Conexant High-Definition Audio.
At the prompt to reboot, click Yes.
If the issue still persists try the steps recommended below.
Is the loudness equalization off? If not, please:
Right, click the speaker icon
select 'Playback Devices'.
Highlight the default device
Click Properties
Click Enhancements tab
Next to 'Loudness Equalization' take out the check mark in the box.
Click Apply
Click OK
If the issue still persists uninstall the audio driver from device manager and install the drivers using HP recovery manager.
Refer this article to know how to restore drivers using HP recovery manager.
If the solution provided worked for you, please mark accepted solution for this post.
Let me know if this works!
Have a great day! 🙂
Please click "Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I have not made any software or harware changes.
Product name : HP ENVY x360 Convertible
Product number : W0U47AV
Speakers: Bang and Olufsen
Driver: Conexant ISST Audio
1st Solution: Rollback driver
-Rollback option is greyed out
2nd solution: Install High Definition Audio Device
-After selecting "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" I see 2 columns (Manufacturer and Model)
Under the Manufacturer Microsoft there are 4 different "High Definition Audio Device" Models Version
1. High Definition Audio Device 10.0.15063.0 [24-08-2001]
2. High Definition Audio Device 10.0.15063.502 [27-07-2017]
3. High Definition Audio Device Settings
4. OEM High Definition Audio Device
WHich one should I install?
3rd solution: Uninstall the audio driver from device manager and install the drivers using HP recovery manager
-Tried it, but did not solve the issue

Greetings @isj126, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
Thanks for the reply and providing the product number of your computer.
Request you open device manager.
Expand "sound, video and game controllers"
Uninstall the audio driver listed there.
Download and install the driver from this link.
This should resolve the issue you are facing.
If the issue persists, run an audio test on your computer. Click here for assistance in running a component test.
Keep me posted.

Hi @Chimney_83
I unsinstalled the current driver and installed the one you provided. Like is said it earlier it did fix the problem for a few hours but again the cross appeared on the speaker with No Audio Output Device Installed. It still happens randomly when I play something with sound or sometimes when I wakeup from sleep.
I did a audio component test and it said everything is working fine.
I had tried installing the general Microsoft High definition Audio driver(like @MrRobot suggested in the previous reply, still not sure which is the correct one to install in that though) but the sound quality was not good with that.
Also, whenever I am surfing the net after I have temporarily fixed the issue, the speakers will make these short quick and faint chirps whenever I go to a new webpage.
Please help me resolve this as its getting very frustating facing such an issue with an expensive and new laptop.

I purchased my HP Envy M360 at Best Buy 8/25/2016 and had nothing but problems with it out of the box. I thought I might be having network issues. I will cut to the chase and not bore anyone with my year of constant battles with the defective product we all seem to be suffering with. After many Geek Squad encounters via telephone/remote sessions, in store check-ins, and a home visit as well as a trip back to HP for repairs under manufacturer's warranty, it appears my computer is fixed. (BUT not fixed at the hands of HP.)
NEVER have I had such an encounter with a product where even the manufacturer had no idea how to fix a problem that EVERYONE who owns this particular unit is having.
Geek Squad had already wiped my computer once and re-installed the HP version of Windows 10 that came with the laptop. I still had the same issues of freezing, no audio, etc. This laptop was unusable whether I tried to go online or tried to use Office offline.
SOLUTION: Geek Squad wiped the laptop for the second time but reinstalled a version of Windows 10 that was plain, vanilla without all of the HP extra bloatware. The 2 different preinstalled sound drivers were battling and maxing out the resources of my computer to 100%. The fan would cycle on and rev for hours and it would stay frozen for hours.
I think we all should form a class action lawsuit against HP because they have put us through hell and back with these units. I have read threads in this forum where people just gave up and bought another non-HP computer. (There are so many threads covering the same issue with different titles.)
Glad I paid for the Geek Squad software support to help me with this ridiculous manufacturer's defect.
So do yourself a favor and get the manufacturer's version of Windows 10 off your HP ENVY M360. Be creative if you need to convince them to fix their screw up. Direct their attention to this forum and all of the different threads about this issue. Threaten to print them and sue them. Don't they have prototypes they test before they mass market these things and push them off on us unsuspecting consumers?
