Since upgrading to WIndows 10 2004 and then 20H2 I have no sound
Test sound produced sucessfully in BIOS but nothing in Windows - looks as expect, everything enabled but get Failed to play Test Tone when testing
Details of devices below, I've tried many different Realtek drivers and the Virtual assistant every option presented fails
Sound devices -
Device 1 - Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST)
Status - Enabled
Driver - IntcBTAu.sys
Version - 10.24.0.3694
Device 2 - Intel(R) Display Audio
Status - Enabled
Driver - IntcDAud.sys

Device 3 - Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST)
Status - Enabled

Device 4 - Realtek High Definition Audio
Status - Enabled

It is a new machine. What did you do with it ? Please perform a clean install Audio software/driver, this would help.
(a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp110001-110500/sp110359.exe
(b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver (Realtek) and reboot,
(c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
(d) Reboot again.

That softpaq isn't supported so hasn't made any difference I'm afraid
To answer your question about is the machine new and what has been done to it, it was new in May and since September I've been having issues with the audio since the WIndows updates that I stated. I've had display driver issues as well with blank screen on atl+tab, flickering to blank screen and shimmering but the latest driver seems to have improved those issues.
