Hi @ath55,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue with your OMEN by HP 15 laptop producing weird noise from the speakers but working fine with headphones suggests it could be a hardware problem (the speaker itself) or a driver/software conflict. Here's how to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Test the Audio in Safe Mode

  • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode.
  • Play an audio file to see if the noise persists.
If it doesn’t, the issue might be caused by a software conflict.

Update or Roll Back the Audio Driver

Update the Audio Driver:

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
  3. Right-click your audio device (likely Realtek or OMEN Audio) and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers.

Roll Back the Driver:

  1. If the noise began after a driver update, select Properties in the same menu.
  2. Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver.

Use HP Support Assistant

  1. Open HP Support Assistant (or download it from HP’s website if not installed).
  2. Use it to scan for driver updates specifically for your audio system.

Disable Audio Enhancements

  1. Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
  2. Go to the Playback tab, select your speakers, and click Properties.
  3. Navigate to the Enhancements tab.
  4. Check Disable all enhancements and click OK.

Test with a Generic Audio Driver

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Right-click your audio driver and choose Update driver.
  3. Select Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  4. Choose High Definition Audio Device and install it.

Check for Hardware Issues

If the above steps don’t help:

  1. Play audio at lower volumes to see if the issue changes (indicating physical damage to speakers).
  2. Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics Tool:
    • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly during boot.
    • Run the Audio Test to identify hardware problems.

Prevent Automatic Driver Reinstallation

If you want to stop the driver from reinstalling itself after deletion:

  1. Open Settings > System > About > Advanced system settings.
  2. Under the Hardware tab, click Device Installation Settings.
  3. Choose No (your device might not work as expected) and save.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi, thanks for the help. I think it's a hardware problem because when I ran the audio test the weird noise it's only from the left side, and the right one it's still working.
