HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a brand new HP Pavilion power series notebook, purchased recently.

The problem is, some kind of noise(somewhat static) is heard over headphones when the laptop is plugged in or charging. The noise completely goes away when the laptop is not plugged in.

The noise is present even if the audio is completely muted or no task is being done. The noise tends to increase when performing tasks like gaming or watching videos. Its almost impossible to use headphones while the power adapter is plugged in, due to the noise.

And when not plugged in, a periodic tone can be heard over headphones for every 2-3 seconds and its annoying.

Built in speakers are perfectly fine.

Windows, drivers, bios etc are updated to the latest.

I have tried 5 different headphones and the noise can be heard on all of them. Those headphones work fine on other systems.

Im in urgent need of a fix.

What must be the problem? Is there a solution?

@MAN02,

Good Day.  Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance regarding issues with a buzzing noise from the headphones when the charger is plugged in. I will be really glad to assist you here. 🙂

Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you try by connecting a different charger and power cord to the notebook and check if the noise goes away?
  • Did it occur after a recent power outage or surge?

For now, try these steps:

  • Please visit a local store like Best Buy or Staples with the notebook. Then use a different power cord and a compatible adapter and connect it to the power port of the computer. Now check for this buzzing noise from your headset.
  • If there is no noise, then both the power cord and AC adapter need to be replaced. If the noise persists, then the computer needs to be repaired. I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Please check your forum private message box next to the bell notification icon on the upper right-hand corner for a private message from me for further assistance.

Perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Good luck to you. I will keep a watch for your response.  Please note that I am not overloading you with steps but instead, giving you more information to work with.

We are as eager as you are to get the issue fixed. I request you to perform all these steps till the issue is fixed.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
