My audio does not work for anything on my laptop. Only when I go into settings and "test" the speakers on my OmniBook 5. I have tried restarting it numerous times and nothing seems to work. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi @agisfun7,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing audio issues on your OmniBook 5. The fact that you can hear sound when using the Test function in Windows settings, but not from applications, videos, or system sounds, suggests that we should first verify whether the audio hardware itself is functioning properly.

Could you please run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Audio Test and let us know the results?

To run the test:

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately tap Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Select Component Tests.
  5. Select Audio.
  6. Run the available Audio Playback Test and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please let us know:

  • Does the test pass or fail?
  • If it fails, do you receive a Failure ID or error code?
  • Are there multiple audio tests available, and if so, what are the results of each?

If the audio test passes, we can then focus on Windows audio settings, drivers, or application-specific issues. If it fails, we'll have a better idea whether this is a hardware-related concern.

Keep us posted with the test results, and we'll be happy to help further.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
