Hi:

Unfortunately for whatever reason, HP retires support for all consumer class PC's that are 10 years old or more.

But most of the drivers are still on the FTP site.  They are completely disassociated with any models though.

You are correct.  You have a notebook that was made for use in Canada.

I think you need to use the XP audio driver for the audio chip your notebook has.

Please post the hardware ID for the High definition audio device, so I can figure out what driver it needs.

Use this guide to find the hardware ID for a device...

You're very welcome.

OK, here is the link to the XP driver that should work for you.

I suggest that you manually install the driver as follows...

Download and save the driver.  Do not run it.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33001-33500/sp33443.exe

Download and install this free file utilty.   The first link at the top of the page is for 32 bit.

https://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the audio driver file you saved.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the exe file into its folder name (sp33443).

Once that is done, go to the device manager.  Click on the HD audio device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.   Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.  Click on Have Disk and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created>CPL30A5a (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.

Restart the PC and you should have sound.

Here is a partial copy and paste of the driver setup information file which shows driver support for the hardware ID you posted.

[Conexant]
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.Waikiki5047.DeviceDesc% = HdAudModel,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5047&SUBSYS_103C30A5

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to find the drivers on the FTP site.

You have to do a search.  I did dv5000 drivers.  I am familiar with those 3rd party driver sites I can trust.

I find out what HP sp##### file they have listed for devices, and then I go to the FTP site and see if they are still on there.

Most of the times they are.

If you need any other drivers, let me know.

If you do, give me the device manager description and hardware ID.

I think the audio is the only one that is a bear to find for your model.

There are no W7 drivers, so usually the Vista ones will work from other notebooks with the Mobile Intel 945 chipset.
