When I use my laptop when the charging cable is plugged in while the laptop is fully charged the notebook starts making a crackling noise similar to that of a failed hard drive noise (it can't be, however, as my laptop has an SSD) but then as soon as I unplug the charger it stops making the noise. This noise occurs even when the laptop audio is muted so it's definitely to do with the internals. It's not a major issue as I can always just take the cable out when it is fully charged but I just want to know the source of the crackling noise and if it does any damage to my machine when it does occur?

I hope you can help!

Hi! @Josh564

Were there any recent windows update on the PC?

Have you tried checking with a different adapter?

Try updating windows to the latest version and check if the issue persists.

Please update the BIOS and Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Client Driver on the PC to the latest version and check if it helps.

You can also try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Also, Try running a system diagnostics test on the PC and check if the hardware components on the PC are functioning correctly.
