HP 255 G8 Notebook PC (347S3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I don't know when it started (I mean which update), but when I try to set speaker volume to any non-zero value, it always sounds the same.

  • There is no difference between 1 and 100.
  • Setting to 0 or MUTE works.
  • I accidentally deleted the old version of the drivers during the cleanup, so I can't Roll Back Driver.
  • I tried updating the driver via Device Manager (Displays that I have the latest update), Windows Update (Not Available), HP Support Assistant (No updates found), and Manually (No change in audio output).
  • I have tried deleting the driver and letting Microsoft Windows automatically reinstall it, but still no change.
  • When manually installing a driver that came with Microsoft Windows (High Definition Audio Device), the audio output works correctly, but the F6 LED Light (Used to check if audio is muted or not) doesn't turn on anymore.

Additional details about my system:

  • OS Version: Microsoft Windows 11 23H2
  • OS Build: 22631.2861
  • Processor Brand Inside: AMD (Advanced Micro Devices)

I solved like this:

  • start C:\Windows\System32\hdwwiz.cpl
  • enter into the Input and Output Audio branch (expand it)
  • right click on the Speaker ... device (see picture) and Disable it
    DisableDevice.jpg
  • right click on the Speaker ... device (see picture) and Enable it

Sound should just work.

Solved?

  1. That didn't work. First thing I have tried was that.
  2. The sound works, just can't change the volume when using updated drivers.
  3. To fix that issue I am using a stock driver (one that comes with Microsoft Windows by the looks of it) which fixed my main issue (no volume change) but doesn't provide F6 LED Light functionality.

  4. What I am looking for is the solution to get both F6 LED Light and Sound Level Change functionalities.

I often use the Driver Easy Free tool [content removed] to update my drivers with the most up-to-date drivers made by the device manufacturer (not by HP).

Try to download the utility and run it: it'll let you download the drivers and let you install them manually (you just right click onto the *.inf file of the driver package you downloaded) and they are copied into the system folders and updated into the registry, right away.

Driver easy goes far beyond Windows Update (and HP, as well).

I have the same issue.

In addition the internal microfones of my 15-eh3000 AMD Pavilion don't work.

I am not sure how the Realktek driver and the microfone are related.

I found a post in which the AMD drivers were blamed to create the issue I tried to address the AMD drivers, but the Laptop crashes whenever I try to put the latest AMD drivers on (bluescreen) and the AMD detection tool just dissapears during hardware detection.

Do your internal microphones work?

Is everything all right using bluetooth or external speakers (that is the case here)?

Do you keep issues with AMD drivers?

Thanks for suggestion, but I wish to refrain from 3rd party driver updaters since I have bad experience with them (last time I used it, it downloaded wrong drivers and had to reset entire PC). I would prefer native solution, such as official drivers or softener itself from HP or Realtek, maybe even Microsoft.

I haven't checked internal microphones, external speakers (can't check due not having any) or Bluetooth yet, but I don't have any problem with AMD drivers.
