HP Pavilion Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The Sound on My Notebook doesn't seem to work at all although I have all the updated drivers , and I tried reinstalling the audio drivers it still doesn't work. I have tried troubleshooting too it didn't work either. I noticed there is a sound when I try to play any video which is a constant *puck puck puck * sound at intervals. The only way for me is to plug in my headphones which is becoming quite annoying for me. Please Help . Thanks In Advance

(The Operating System is Windows 10 Since I bought It I just did the windows updates).

Well there is the answer. The audio chip on the motherboard has failed. It is a rare thing but it can happen and sorry to say the audio chip cannot be removed and replaced it means a new motherboard.

There is just no hope for help unless you tell us the model number of the laptop. There is a sound diagnostic in UEFI (tap esc  + f2 as you power up) and it will test the sound card function free of the operating system so we can isolate hardware issues from software.

My Model is 15-au007nx.

OK and did you run the diagnostic in the UEFI environment? (F2)

HP Recommended

Yes, I did run it told me that the test failed and it gave me a QR code to scan and a Failure ID

Hi,

If the audio chip has failed on the motherboard you can get an external USB audio card for quite good price. Actually these audio cards can have much higher sound quality than the one on the motherboard such as high fidelity playback and many other functions.

Example:

Hope it helps,

Yes the quality of the audio on a usb sound stick is way superior. I use one with my laptop for presentations. However, it will only play through an external speaker(s) and will not give you sound through the laptop speakers so it is kind of a limited, specialist solution.

hello,

sorry I haven't replied in a while I took my laptop for motherboard replacement since my warranty hasn't ended. Im surprised however in one year time the audio chipset fails. Could you please tell me any possible reasons so that I may avoid them while using my laptop. I have never messed up with the laptop internal motherboard or opened it at all.

Thanks in advance.

Any chip on the motherboard can fail at any time. Electronics is just that way. The odds are low, but it can happen.

You were just unlucky to have that chip fail. Very unikely lightning will strike twice.
