Hi all,

Since today my laptop makes a static noise whenever it plays any sound (i.e. both when playing a video/audio file and when giving a notifigation).

The problem started when I was transcribing: i played the audio file with windows media player, listened to it with my headphones and used the speech tool in google drive. The volume was maybe a bit higher than regularly, but definitily not too high (considering the headphones). My laptop was charging at the time, but taking it of the electricity doesn't make any difference.

I have already re-installed the audio drivers, followed the sound trouble shooter, configured the sound and disabled the microphone.

Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem? Please help, because I need to finish transcribing this week...

Thanks!!

Hi,

You may want to try the following - I should point out that I've only tested this on the notebook currently loaned to me by HP.

Right click the battery icon and select Power options - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane.

In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and shutdown the notebook.

Start the notebook - it will take a little longer to boot - and check if the 'static' noise has gone.
