Hi i have a strange problem with my Laptop, when earphones are connected the volume keys turn the volume up and down as should. As soon as i remove them the volume is flat out full 100% the slider moves up and down but does not alter the volume. Any ideas please, thanks 🙂

Hi @TomTit007,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding volume control issues on the HP 17 laptop PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve software glitches.
Check Audio Settings:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select Open Sound settings.
- Ensure the correct output device is selected when the earphones are disconnected.
Update Audio Drivers:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Navigate to Sound, video, and game controllers.
- Right-click on your audio device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Roll Back Drivers: If the issue started recently, it might be due to a recent driver update. Roll back the driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click on the audio device and select Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Ensure your system is up to date, as updates sometimes include fixes for hardware issues.
Troubleshoot Sound Problems:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Playing Audio and run the troubleshooter.
Advanced Options
Reinstall Audio Drivers:
- In Device Manager, right-click on the audio device and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows should reinstall the audio driver automatically.
Check Audio Enhancements:
- Right-click on the speaker icon and select Sounds.
- Go to the Playback tab, select your speaker, and click Properties.
- Under the Enhancements tab, disable all enhancements and click OK.
Check the Sound Control Panel:
- Open Control Panel.
- Navigate to Hardware and Sound > Sound.
- Ensure your speakers are set as the default device when earphones are disconnected.
I hope this helps.
