I have a pavilion x360 that the sound will not work on. In fact you cannot unmute the speakers, every time you do the volume level just lowers itself until the sound is muted. I had Windows 8.1 on it so I thought I would do the Windows 10 upgrade and see if that helped. Nope, same thing. I downloaded the latest realtec drivers from HP's website and uninstalled the old drivers first and still nothing. I tried disabling the realtec card and just use the PC speakers option and it worked one time but after a reboot it went right back to muting the sound again. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue and if anyone has found a cure or at least a work around?

Hi @KK2264,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 11-n010dx Notebook and Volume lower by itself.
1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner.
2. Click Playback Devices.
3. Click Speakers.
4. Click properties.
5. Click the advanced tab on the Properties window.
6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.
7. Apply the properties.
8. Click OK to close the properties window. Restart your Notebook and try the sound.
You could try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows 10. Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed!
I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. This has helped others.
Please let me know how this goes.

Hi @jpedicini
Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
I reviewed your post and I understand that the volume on your computer goes down automatically.
I’d love to help!
Follow below steps and check if it helps.
- Click start and type sound and hit enter (to open the Sound window). Or you can alternatively right-click on the sound icon in the tray area and select Sounds.
- Select the Playback tab and then right-click on the Speakers and select Properties.
- Go to Enhancements tab (if you have it) and uncheck Disable all sound effects (or any similar thing you might have in there).
If the issue persists, follow the steps in the below link.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thank you for the suggestions, but this does not resolve the problem. I've uninstalled, re-installed, tried to update, etc. etc. - to no avail. I can get the sound to work for a very short period of time if I uninstall it, reboot...but in a minute or so - not very long, the little pop-up window appears, the sound automatically lowers itself and there is nothing that can be done. The only way to remove the pop-up is uninstalling the audio driver....the result being - no sound. Install the driver, sound for a short period - then it starts lowering itself automatically - as if the volume down button was stuck - but it doesn't appear to be. Any advice. This is the only issue with the laptop, so if it is fixable, I'd like to fix it - if not it seems quite a shame, but a laptop with no audio capability is not very useful.

hi!
i have a 13-a100nq with exactly the same problem.
Have you managed to fix it in any way?
I've reinstalled windows, back to factory state, bios update and lost many hours on web trying to find a solution.
Nothing worked.
If it's a known HP problem, maybe they will give us a solution...
Thanks!

For anyone like me that gets directed to this forum after many years, it could probably help to know that the way I fixed this after searching everywhere and updating, resetting and all software changes, that this model (at least mine) comes with a set of volume controls on the right side, next to the usb/power plug. It seems that when I plug the cable in, I pushed the volume control and it got stuck, therefore, the volume kept changing every time. Once I got it unstuck (well, first I had to discover the controls, as they do not stand out), I heard a click, and boom! issue was gone. Sometimes the simplest solution is the correct one.
