If two people are sharing the integrated microphone only one person can be heard

It does not make any sense. Do you sit next to each other ? If not, how do you share ONE microphone ?

The microphone is integrated on the top of the laptop.

Typically my wife and I are sharing the same video which works fine but if one of us is speaking,  that voice is picked up fine when the other one speaks,  who is sitting alongside me, that cannot be heard
