HP Laptop 15-dy2xxx

my right side speaker is much a little quiter than my left and makes this loud buzzing noise whenever any audio is playing with very slight audio coming out of speaker. The buzzing is more prominent the more loud the volume is. I tried deleting and reinstalling the speaker software but it did nothing. The audio is fine when I use earphones/headphones. I've never dropped my laptop or used it very roughly either. i feel like the  buzzing sound is also louder at the bottom of the computer near the ventilation holes

Hello @Nahlatuzahra911, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Fixing Speaker Buzzing/Low Volume on HP Laptop Speakers

Based on the information available, here are the steps you can take to troubleshoot speaker issues on your HP laptop.

1. Restart the computer

  1. Restart your laptop.
  2. After it boots, play audio again and check if the buzzing/low volume persists.

2. Run Audio Check in HP Support Assistant

  1. Go to HP Support Assistant and install it if it’s not already installed.
  2. In Windows, search for and open HP Support Assistant.
  3. On My Dashboard, click Fixes & Diagnostics.

Click Troubleshooting and fixes in the My notebook pane
  4. Click Audio Check in One click fixes.
    Audio Check icon
  5. Click Next and wait for the test to complete.
Clicking Next to start the Audio Check
  6. Review the results, then click Test Audio.
Reviewing the audio test results, and then clicking Test Audio
  7. If the buzzing/low volume is still present, click Unable to Hear Audio and follow the on‑screen steps.

3. Run the Windows sound troubleshooter

  1. Right‑click the speaker icon in the taskbar notification area.
    Taskbar sound icon
  2. Select Troubleshoot sound problems.
  3. Choose your laptop speakers device and click Next.
  4. Apply any fixes it suggests and test your audio again.

4. Test with external speakers/headphones

You mentioned headphones are fine; this suggests the issue is likely with the internal speaker hardware on the right side rather than the audio driver.

If external speakers (plugged into the headphone jack) play normally without buzzing: - The internal right speaker might be faulty and could require service/replacement.

5. Update audio driver via Windows Update

  1. In Windows, search for and open Check for updates.
  2. Install any available updates (especially driver updates).
  3. Restart and test audio again.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
