Hi @Valeria26,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand that the microphone is not working in Zoom or other applications, nobody can hear you, and the microphone diagnostic is also not detecting your voice.

Before we proceed further, please let us know:

  • What is the exact HP computer model/product number?
  • Are you using Windows 10 or Windows 11?
  • Are you using the computer's built-in microphone, a wired headset, a USB microphone, or a Bluetooth headset?
  • Did the microphone work previously, and if so, did this begin after a Windows, driver, or software update?

Please do not post the serial number or other personal information.

In the meantime, please try these steps:
1. Check the microphone connection
If you're using an external microphone or headset, make sure it is connected to the correct microphone/headset port. HP also recommends testing a USB microphone in another USB port and, where possible, testing the microphone with another device.

If you're using the built-in microphone, move to the next step.

2. Check the microphone in Device Manager

  1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Audio inputs and outputs and Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Check whether the microphone/audio device is listed.
  4. If an audio device shows a down arrow, enable the device.
  5. For the audio device, select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers and allow Windows to install an available driver update.
  6. Restart the computer and test the microphone again.

3. Run Windows Update
Please check for and install available Windows Updates, then restart the computer. HP includes Windows Update as part of its microphone troubleshooting guidance.

4. Run the HP Audio Check
HP provides an Audio Check specifically to diagnose sound and microphone-related problems. The tool performs diagnostic tests and can help resolve detected audio issues automatically: HP Notebook PCs - Advanced sound troubleshooting in Windows | HP® Support

Please run the Audio Check and let us know whether the microphone test passes or fails.

5. Test Zoom only after the microphone works in Windows
Because you mentioned that the microphone also fails outside Zoom and fails the diagnostic test, we first need to make sure that Windows and the computer are detecting microphone input correctly.

Once the microphone works outside Zoom, test it again in Zoom. If it works elsewhere but still does not work in Zoom, we can then concentrate specifically on the microphone selected in Zoom.

You can also follow HP's official microphone troubleshooting here: HP PCs - Microphone troubleshooting (Windows 11) | HP® Support

Please reply with the HP computer model, Windows version, type of microphone you're using, whether it appears in Device Manager, and the result of the HP Audio Check. That will help us determine the correct next step without repeating unnecessary troubleshooting.

I'm an HP Employee.
