@snrich46, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand you're having trouble with the microphone array volume control not working on your HP Envy. Let's walk through a few steps to help resolve this issue:
Check Microphone Privacy Settings
Sometimes, Windows privacy settings can block apps from accessing your microphone.
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone
- Click Change and ensure microphone access is turned ON
- Also, make sure “Allow apps to access your microphone” is enabled
Adjust Microphone Volume
- Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sounds
- Go to the Recording tab
- Select Microphone Array, then click Properties
- Under the Levels tab, ensure the volume is turned up and not muted
Run the Audio Troubleshooter
- Open Control Panel > Troubleshooting > Hardware and Sound
- Click Troubleshoot audio recording
- Follow the on-screen instructions
Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers
- Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek or Intel Smart Sound) and choose Update driver
- If updating doesn’t help, try Uninstall device, then restart your PC to reinstall it automatically
