my device microphone is not getting my sound

I understand that you are facing issues with the microphone and  your device is not picking up sound. We acknowledge the issue and want to assure you that we’ll work with you step‑by‑step to isolate whether this is a hardware or software problem.

 

Enable Microphone via Keyboard

  • Some HP laptops have a function key that toggles the microphone on/off.
  • Look for a mic icon on the F4/F8 key (varies by model)
  • Press Fn + [Mic key] to enable/disable
  • Confirm the mic icon in taskbar shows active

Test with Earphones or Headphones

  • Verifies if the issue is with the internal mic or system audio routing.
  • Plug in a headset with a mic
  • Open Settings → System → Sound → Input
  • Select the headset mic and test by speaking

Check with External USB Device

  • Confirms whether Windows detects and uses external microphones.
  • Connect a USB microphone or webcam with mic
  • In Sound settings, switch input to the external device
  • Test recording in Voice Recorder app

Run HP UEFI Microphone Test

  • Restart laptop 
  • Press Esc repeatedly 
  • Select F2 HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI 
  • Component Tests → Audio → Microphone Test
  • Follow on‑screen prompts to speak into mic
  • Playback will confirm detection
