My HP Pavilion 13-an0031wm B&O speakers no longer work, and I have this message: "No audio output device is installed" and the icon in the bottom right has a red cross on it. I have been searching for a fix for three months now, but none of the suggestions have worked. I have tried EVERY suggestion in the help menu, the audio troubleshooter, and the HP Support Assistant already, so please do not reply with one of those very basic suggestions. Someone must have had this same problem and found a solution. There must be a way to completely uninstall the corrupted driver without leaving any remnants that linger, since I suspect that is what is causing my system to revert to the same problem. That's just my guess; I'm not a computer tech.
Please help. Thank you.

I think your device is installed with Windows 10 OS, I have also searched for information about the sound card on your device.
Hopefully this is the right audio driver for your device.
How to install:
1. Extract the downloaded file to match the Windows 10 OS version on your device.
2. Open Device Manager, click the Add Drivers icon, then select the 2nd option to direct to the extracted file folder.
3. Check again whether the audio driver was successfully installed.
If it is not installed, then:
1. Stay in Device Manager, look under System devices, look for Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller.
2. Then click on that, click on the update driver icon at the top in Device Manager.
3. Select the 2nd option, but don't click the browse button. Click the option below it, it says view the drivers installed on my computer.
4. After that a window will appear, select High Definition Audio Controller.
Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for your assistance.
My device has Windows 10 Home 64-bit Version: 19045.5487, and the only sound card info I can find is Realtek High Definition Audio.
I looked through all six pages of the audio driver link you gave, I could not find a matching Windows 10 OS version; none that are Windows 10 Home 64-bit, so I didn't download a driver. According to Windows Update, it says the proper driver is installed (RTKVHD64.sys 6.0.9761.1). Following other proposed solutions, I have uninstalled the corrupted audio driver multiple times and let Windows Update choose and install the right driver (which is what is installed now), but the problem remains the same. Also, I have tried the Device Manager driver update suggestion multiple times, but the problem remains the same.
I don't know why this problem remains. It doesn't make sense to me (but I'm no expert). It's very frustrating.
Thank you very much for your assistance. I hope a solution can be found.

I am replying to this suggested solution a SECOND time because my first reply to Banlix was removed with the claim that my reply was spam! Why did you remove my reply to the person who replied to my original post? Now I have to write what I can remember a SECOND TIME (VERY IRRITATING!)!!
My device OS is Windows 10 Home 64-bit Version: 19045.5487, and the only sound card information I can find is Realtek High Definition Audio.
I could not find a driver with a matching OS (Windows 10 Home 64-bit) on any of the six pages in the linked site for an audio driver.
Using other suggested solutions, I have uninstalled the audio driver and let Windows Update install the "right" audio driver (currently, it is RTKVH64.sys version 6.0.9761.1), but the problem remains the same. Also, I have tried the Device Manager driver update suggestion multiple times, but the problem remains the same. I do not understand why nothng has worked, but I'm no expert.
Thank you for all your assistance.

Do not install that version, because it is not compatible with your Windows OS version.
You should try installing from here first to resolve the Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller and Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) OED drivers along with the Realtek drivers.
