EliteBook 820 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

EliteBook 820 G3, Win 10 Pro, new (second-hand) purchase. When I boot up I get a Smart Audio message:  "A Conexant audio device could not be found. The application will now exit." center screen on the desktop, and all attempts to restore sound , including  Win reinstallation and BIOS upgrade,  have failed. I´ve tried to dowload and install the Conexant driver, all I get is the message:  "Installation unsuccessful, no Audio Output Device is installed.".  All attempts to resolve sound issues say the same-failure to find sound devices. I have even  switched out the  M.2 ssd used as "C"  to one known to work-including sound-from  my 840 G2 , still the same problem. What to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated

An update:  accessed  HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI ,  tried to run the Audio Test and received the message:  "The Audio Test is not supported on this system,"
