Hi @foret64
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Realtek Audio Admin Background Process Class preventing shutdown" message indicates that a Realtek audio process is blocking your laptop from shutting down properly. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:
1. Update Audio Drivers
- Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Right-click on Realtek Audio and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
2. Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can sometimes cause shutdown issues:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended), then click Save changes.
3. End Realtek Processes
- Task Manager:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Look for any Realtek processes (like RAVBg64.exe).
- Right-click on the process and select End Task.
4. Check for Background Applications
- Ensure no applications using Realtek audio are running in the background. Close any media players or applications that might be utilizing audio before shutting down.
5. Perform a Clean Boot
A clean boot can help determine if background applications are causing the issue:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
- In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
- Restart your computer and see if the issue persists.
6. Reinstall Realtek Audio Drivers
- If updating the drivers doesn't work, you can try uninstalling them:
- In Device Manager, right-click on Realtek Audio and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.
7. Check Windows Updates
- Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date, as updates can resolve compatibility issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
