Hi @foret64

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Realtek Audio Admin Background Process Class preventing shutdown" message indicates that a Realtek audio process is blocking your laptop from shutting down properly. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

1. Update Audio Drivers

  • Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
    • Right-click on Realtek Audio and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

2. Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can sometimes cause shutdown issues:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended), then click Save changes.

3. End Realtek Processes

  • Task Manager:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Look for any Realtek processes (like RAVBg64.exe).
    • Right-click on the process and select End Task.

4. Check for Background Applications

  • Ensure no applications using Realtek audio are running in the background. Close any media players or applications that might be utilizing audio before shutting down.

5. Perform a Clean Boot

A clean boot can help determine if background applications are causing the issue:

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.
  • Check Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.
  • Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
  • Restart your computer and see if the issue persists.

6. Reinstall Realtek Audio Drivers

  • If updating the drivers doesn't work, you can try uninstalling them:
    • In Device Manager, right-click on Realtek Audio and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.

7. Check Windows Updates

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date, as updates can resolve compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
