Hi @joseq,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the Realtek audio driver might have been accidentally deleted while cleaning up your system. Since updating drivers hasn't resolved the issue, let's try the following steps to restore the Realtek audio on your HP Laptop PC 15.
Reinstall Realtek Audio Driver
- Download and Install from HP:
- Go to the HP Support website and enter your laptop model (HP Laptop PC 15).
- Download the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver specific to your laptop model and operating system.
- Install the driver and restart your laptop.
- Alternative: Use Windows Update:
- Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start button and choose "Device Manager").
- Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
- Right-click on the audio device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers and let Windows find the right driver.
Check Sound Settings
- After reinstalling the driver, right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
- Go to the Playback tab and ensure that Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) is selected as the default device.
- Test your audio by playing some media.
Restore the Realtek Audio Device if Missing
- If you don't see Realtek High Definition Audio in Device Manager:
- In Device Manager, go to Action > Scan for hardware changes to detect any missing hardware.
- If it's still missing, go to Control Panel > Troubleshoot > Hardware and Sound > Playing Audio to let Windows detect and resolve sound issues.
Once you have reinstalled the correct drivers and adjusted your settings, the audio should be restored.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
