Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For a month now, I've been hearing an occasional crackling sound coming from my laptop speakers. For example, I might listen to two songs without a problem, but then I'll switch to a third song and the crackling will start. Sometimes it goes away on its own and then comes back. I've installed all the updates and checked each one, but it still hasn't fixed it.

@melisashhin, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand you're experiencing intermittent crackling sounds from your laptop speakers on Windows 10. Let's walk through some steps to help resolve this issue:

Run HP Audio Check

HP provides a built-in diagnostic tool to detect and fix audio issues:

Use Windows Troubleshooter

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar.
  • Select Troubleshoot sound problems.
  • Choose your audio device and follow the on-screen instructions.

Update Audio Drivers

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek, Intel, etc.) and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers.

Alternatively, you can update drivers via Windows Update:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates.

Disable Audio Enhancements

  • Right-click the speaker icon > Sounds > Playback tab.
  • Select your default playback device and click Properties.
  • Go to the Enhancements tab and check Disable all enhancements.
  • Click Apply and OK.

Test with External Audio

Try using headphones or external speakers. If the crackling disappears, the issue may be hardware-related with the internal speakers.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
