A year after I bought this laptop, it refuses to power up. The power light was blinking white and yellow. I then bought a new battery and now power light near power adapter socket is solid white. I'm stumped as to what to do next to try and power it up. Any/all suggestions welcome

Hi @bhojkamp,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Thank you for reaching out to HP Support. I’m sorry to hear that your HP Laptop 15-dy2000 is not powering on despite replacing the battery, and I understand how concerning this must be.

The blinking white and yellow power light typically indicates a hardware-related issue, and the solid white light near the power adapter shows that the charger is supplying power. Here are some steps you can try to get your laptop powered up:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reinsert the battery and reconnect the charger.
  • Try powering on the laptop again.

    2. Attempt BIOS Recovery

Sometimes BIOS corruption can prevent startup. Please follow these steps:

  • Make sure the laptop is shut down and the charger is plugged in.
  • Press and hold the Windows + B keys together, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds while holding Windows + B.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B until a BIOS recovery screen appears (this may take up to 40 seconds).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to restore the BIOS.

If no BIOS recovery screen appears, try the same process with Windows + C keys instead.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.

Thanks for being part of the HP Community!
