@renae7 -- the motherboard cannot connect to the disk-drive. Possibilities:

  1. dead disk-drive
  2. data or power cables no longer connected to the disk-drive
  3. BIOS SETUP has been configured to "ignore" the specific SATA port

When you power-on the computer, do you get an option to run the HP Hardware Diagnostics?

If so, run the "short DST" (short number of minutes disk-drive status test).

If it fails, the disk-drive needs to be replaced.

@poodajames - no option

Please read: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Official Site

for two topics:

1. how to press ESC and then F2 to launch the HP Hardware Diagnostics

2. how to create a bootable USB memory-stick that launches the same diagnostics.

i hope this helps.
