I updated my bios recently since I have an old laptop and wanted to get it out of the closet and make it work. The moment I updated my bios everything went to a black screen I have already tried to use the win+b, win+v, ctrl+esc combo with a bios on a USB stick but nothing seems to work. Has anyone encountered this problem and has a solution? I know there are people on the internet who faced this issue with the same update that I did, I went from F.36 to F.75 Rev.A.

I am yet to see anything apart from a black screen. Please let me know if anyone has a solution Thanks

Hi @Chauch_ ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see a black screen after updating your BIOS, especially when you're eager to get your laptop up and running again. Let’s try a few steps to help resolve this issue.

After the update, does the laptop power on (fans spinning, lights on) even though the screen remains black?

Have you tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue is with the internal display?

Did the BIOS update process complete without interruption, or did you encounter any errors during the update?

Let's try these steps.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then attempt to power the laptop on again.

Reset BIOS via Recovery Mode:

  • Power off the laptop completely.
  • Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press and hold the Power button for about 10-15 seconds.
  • This should trigger the BIOS recovery process, and the laptop should attempt to restore the previous BIOS version from the USB stick.

Try an External Display:

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or VGA.
  • Power the laptop on to see if there’s any output. If you can see the display on the external monitor, the issue may be with the internal screen.

BIOS Recovery from USB Drive:

  • Download the correct BIOS version from the HP support website and place it on a USB stick.
  • Ensure the USB stick is formatted in FAT32, and the BIOS file is extracted to the root directory.
  • Power off the laptop, plug in the USB drive, then perform the Windows + B or Windows + V recovery process again.

Try a BIOS Downgrade:

  • If possible, try downloading the previous BIOS version (F.36 in your case) from the HP website and attempt to reinstall it through a USB recovery process.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Honestly, I dont think anything that was given by you or any support on reddit/hp/youtube etc helped, I think someone will have to reflash the bios using external tools or probably desolder the chip and reprogram it. I am in talk with my local IT but this is really sad
