Hello!
Recently I needed to access my BIOS to enable virtualization but apparently, there is an Administrator Password set up.

I never set any kind of password to access my BIOS and I am going crazy with it.

I tried to install a different version of the BIOS without any positive result, the password is still there.

I tried to perform a CMOS reset without any positive result, the password is still there.

When I try to enter the incorrect password three times when I try to access the BIOS it just tells me: HP SpareKey Recovery; Recovery Options; System SN:(Serial number here); 1. Insert HP Sparekey USB Recovery Key.

I do not have any idea what is this Sparekey USB Recovery Key, I do not have one!

I was wondering if by physically removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for about 1 hour the problem would get solved but by looking at the Maintenance and Service Guide of my laptop there is no CMOS battery mentioned so I do not know where to actually look for it.

I was wondering if there is a CMOS battery in my laptop and where or if I could solve my problem in a different way, please.

Thanks very much.

Removing the CMOS battery on a laptop has no effect no matter how long you leave it out.

Passwords can NOT be recovered; instead, they have to be reset.

If your PC reset your password on you, we can not help in that because we have no access to either the original or the new password.

We are not permitted to assist in resetting passwords due to HP Policy.

For Admin password resets, you have to contact your regional HP Customer Support location directly for assistance.

For BIOS or power-on password resets, because the password is encoded onto a chip on the motherboard, replacement of that motherboard is required. HP does not reset the BIOS password on the current motherboard.

If you are not prepared to spend the money to get HP to replace the motherboard, you would have to take the PC to a local repair facility to see if they can do it for you -- but we can not assist in that in any way.
