HP Pro X2 612 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi folks,

We're a school, and have inherited this HP Pro X2 (612 G1) with a student that joined. The laptop was provided for the student at their previous school, but we have now been given ownership. We've had the laptop 2-3 years, and now discovered that a BIOS password has been set.

Is there any way to remove/reset this password so we can access the BIOS to configure boot choice etc. for imaging?

Thanks

Hi, @CMSCMS

For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

NOTE:

Do not attempt to remove the RTC (CMOS) battery.

It won't remove the password, but it will reset the clock - as smc files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the smc will cause the password clearing program to fail.

Hi

Try 3 guesses and post any error message please.

It says "Authentication Failed. System Locked. Press the power button to restart the system."

Unfortunately that won't help. It mentions on the page that resetting to defaults won't affect passwords.

Hi

In that case I am sorry and await a moderator or expert to jump in and help.
