Hi folks,
We're a school, and have inherited this HP Pro X2 (612 G1) with a student that joined. The laptop was provided for the student at their previous school, but we have now been given ownership. We've had the laptop 2-3 years, and now discovered that a BIOS password has been set.
Is there any way to remove/reset this password so we can access the BIOS to configure boot choice etc. for imaging?
Thanks

Hi, @CMSCMS
For that model you will need to contact HP in your region and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.
NOTE:
Do not attempt to remove the RTC (CMOS) battery.
It won't remove the password, but it will reset the clock - as smc files are time coded, a large disparity between the system clock and the time encoded in the smc will cause the password clearing program to fail.
