BIOS password Master Recovery Key

I bought my laptop from a private party, i.e., a military member before he was deployed. I didn't ask for a BIOS password, and I can't access the BIOS. Will HP provide a Master BIOS recovery password if I purchase an extended service plan?

Purchasing an extended service plan is very unlikely to provide a “master BIOS recovery password.”

For HP business notebooks, HP states that it cannot reset a lost or forgotten BIOS password. The official resolution for a forgotten BIOS password is system board replacement, and additional customer costs may apply:

Also, BIOS recovery or CMOS reset procedures are intended for BIOS corruption or firmware recovery. They do not remove a BIOS administrator password.

If you purchased the laptop from a private party, the best next step is to contact the seller and ask for the BIOS administrator password or proof that the device was properly released from any previous organization.

I would also recommend contacting HP Support with proof of ownership and the exact product/serial number privately, but based on HP’s official guidance, they should not provide a master password. If the BIOS password is unknown, system board replacement may be the only supported path.
