HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-bl112dx
Windows 10 Professional (64-bit) v1809, with Bitlocker encrypted drive
BIOS version F.37
I'm struggling to get my laptop updated with the latest BIOS (F.42 Rev. A) -- the option to "Update" is simply greyed out, as can be seen in the following screenshot:
I have contacted HP Support numerous times, my case has been escalated to the engineering team, but as of present date, no resolution. I haven't had any issues in the past, using the exact same process to upgrade to where I am at currently, with BIOS version F.37 -- but simply cannot figure out what prerequisite I may be missing in order to make this machine eligible for the most current update. I have even attempted to apply an earlier version (F.40 Rev.A 29.4 MB Jun 19, 2018), but that has also failed.
Anyone have suggestions, or steps to try? Would also love to hear from anyone who might have had success in applying the latest BIOS updates to their HP Spectre x360. Thank you in advance for your time and attention to my little matter.

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post that you need assistance in updating the Bios on your HP Notebook. Don't I'll be glad to assist you with this.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Why exactly do you want to update the Bios? Are you having any issues with the computer?
Are all the ports on the computer working?
Have you ensured all the Windows is updated?
In the meantime, let's start off by updating the Windows:
1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to do a Bios defaults:
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Now try to update the Bios, for more details, please follow this link: HP Notebook PCs - Recovering the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)
Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.
Eagerly waiting for your response!

@Jeet_singh thank you kindly for the response, however I've been through the bulk of the most common troubleshooting issues. I'll try to give direct answers to the bulk off your questions/concerns, to the best of my ability, but please bear with me and I apologize in advance for my frustrations as there have been ongoing issues with this gorgeous laptop since day 1.
HP Spectre x360 - 15-bl112dx
Edition: Windows 10 Professional Version: 1809 OS Build: 10.0.17763.55 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz Graphics card: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 & nVidia MX 150 System: OSType64BitX64 RAM: 16 GB
I wish to upgrade to the latest firmware in hopes of resolving any discovered bugs and to apply the various fixes, etc. that are typically offered with these updates. I've had no issues upgrading from the firmware version that the device shipped with, but I've gotten stuck at version F.37A -- none of my efforts have been successful from that point on. I've tried multiple different versions, thinking I was potentially missing some pre-requisite, but that does not seem to be the case.
All ports on the PC are working. I've plugged the supplied a/c power adapter directly into the USB C port while attempting to perform this firmware upgrade. As you can see from the details posted above, my laptop is running the latest update/version of Windows 10 Professional. As per your suggestion, I tried to update Windows, got a single update for "Windows Defender" and that was it. I've also reset the BIOS defaults as recommended. The results are the same (FAILED).
Lastly, you have suggested I try to follow the instructions on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02693833 in order to perform the "HP Notebook PCs - Recovering the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)" -- however, my current BIOS version appears to be in working order. Are you suggesting I still attempt to roll back to a previous version, even though this current one is functioning properly?
I had a support request submitted to the support folks, which was escalated to the Engineering Team and I even had a couple missed calls from the rep telling me that the incident was still being worked on and to continue to be patient while the engineers worked on reproducing the issue and providing me with a resolution. This has now continued for a number of months. Thankfully it is NOT my daily driver, but I do rely on the machine when travelling for work and it needs to be reliable and in good working order when the need arises.
Thank you kindly for the response, sir. I look forward to further correspondence and any other suggestions that I may not have yet tried. If you could attempt to check in with the Engineering team directly, or look up my case history, that would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, I do not believe I have a ticket, or incident number to refer to, but hopefully it will be attached to my HP Support account profile.
I have just now noticed that there are new/different versions of the BIOS firmware which were released within the past ~month, or so -- I shall attempt to look into applying these, in hopes of working through, or around the issue. Version F.42 Rev.A was the problem version, perhaps I'll have better luck with the more recently released F.38 Rev.A edition. Will report back with any success (or lack thereof). Thank you for your time and attention to my little matter.

@Flower_Bud thank you kindly for the prompt response and offer of assistance. In fact, I meant to try and make time to attempt the vF.38 BIOS update yesterday, but as per usual... life got in the way. Lemme see if I can't manage to squeeze another attempt in here in the not too distant future and I will be sure to update you promptly -- keep your fingers crossed for me, or whatever you believe in! I need all the help I can get, apparently. This has been a bit of a struggle.
Here's hoping for the best. Talk soon.

I'm pleased to report that the installation for BIOS version F.38 Rev.A proceeded flawlessly. Took less than ten minutes and now we're back in business. Now to see if this is where I should remain, or if that version F.40 would be the next step towards the original goal of getting upgraded to F.42 Rev.A -- thanks again for your expertise, @Flower_Bud it has been most appreciated!

Sadly, I must report that the attempted upgrade to BIOS version F.42 Rev.A has failed (yet again) - with results being identical to the original (top) post in this thread... the "Update" option is simply greyed out and not able to be selected. Cannot for the life of me figure out what other pre-requisites I may be lacking. Still haven't heard back from the Engineering team regarding my escalated support issue, but I don't expect I'll be getting any more calls from them at this stage in the game. Not really sure what to do at this point... perhaps that wasn't ever destined for my device -- I will continue to attempt to follow any further progress on the other versions. I'm happy to at least make the jump forward one version, from F.37 to F.38 -- slight progress is better than none at all.
Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this effort.
