Hello,
I am facing a persistent issue with my HP laptop and need support.

Laptop Model

HP 15s-du2077TU

Main Problem

My laptop keeps showing “Battery calibration needed” even after replacing the battery and performing calibration multiple times.

What I have already tried

  1. Installed a new original HP battery by an HP service center.

  2. Performed battery calibration using

    • HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

    • HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows

    • Full discharge + full charge method

  3. Ran Windows Battery Report → It still suggests calibration.

  4. Tried removing & reinstalling HP drivers and BIOS updates.

  5. Issue persists — Battery percentage drops quickly, and the popup continues.

BIOS Issue

I attempted to check the Battery Calibration feature in BIOS, but:

  • When entering BIOS, it asks for an Administrator password

  • I do not know the password

  • After entering wrong attempts, instead of giving a “system disabled code”, the laptop shows:

“System locked. Please press the power button to shutdown.”

  • So I cannot unlock BIOS or access the battery calibration option there.

Additional Actions Tried

  • Windows + B + Power combo (to reset BIOS) → Did not work

  • Different key patterns to enter BIOS recovery → None worked

  • Fast startup disabled + restart attempts → No change

  • Laptop boots to Windows normally, but BIOS access remains locked.

What help I need

  1. How can I unlock BIOS (Administrator password reset) on this model?

  2. Because no “halt code” is displayed, how can I generate a BIOS reset code for HP support?

  3. Is the battery calibration alert happening because BIOS calibration is blocked?

  4. Is there any official HP procedure to remove the BIOS password and fix the calibration warning?

🖥 Steps Summary

Component Status
New batteryInstalled
Windows CalibrationDone
HP Diagnostics CalibrationDone
BIOS CalibrationNot possible (locked)
BIOS Reset Key CombosTried, failed
Error on BIOS“System locked — press power button to shutdown”

Please guide me on how to:

  • Reset / remove BIOS password on HP 15s-du2077TU, without a code display

  • Or any alternative process to bypass BIOS lock and fix the battery calibration issue.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @CalibrationBatt,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I’m sorry to hear that the system BIOS is locked after multiple password attempts. I would like to inform you that HP is unable to reset or remove the BIOS administrator password, please note the BIOS password is not set By HP.

This security feature can only be addressed through authorized service centers.

For assistance, we recommend contacting your internal IT Administrator or visiting an HP Authorized Service Center. Please note that BIOS password removal or system board reprogramming is a chargeable service.

If your HP laptop continues to display a "Battery calibration needed" message even after replacing the battery and performing calibration, there might be underlying issues that require attention. Here are some steps and suggestions to consider

Verify Battery Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the replacement battery is a genuine HP battery compatible with your specific laptop model. Third-party batteries might not communicate correctly with the laptop's system.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to perform a comprehensive check of your hardware:
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Power it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly.
    • Press F2 to access the Diagnostic menu > Component test > Run a Battery Test.

Take care and have an amazing day!
