I have a brand new HP Envy x360 Laptop that is not charging the battery regardless if the computer is on or off. I have used the brand new power cord and a C cable attached to my monitor - neither charges the battery. I have gone to the Device Manager and uninstalled the 2 entries related to the battery and rebooted - no change.

Hi @sstil,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your brand new HP Envy x360 laptop is not charging the battery despite trying different power cords and methods, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the battery drivers, there could be several potential causes for this issue. Here are some steps to further troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Power Outlet and Cord

  1. Make sure the power outlet you're using is functional by plugging in another device.
  2. Verify that the power cord and adapter are properly connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
  3. Inspect the power cord and adapter for any signs of damage or wear. If damaged, consider getting a replacement.

2. Verify BIOS Settings

  1. Restart your laptop and access the BIOS settings by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually F10 or Esc).
  2. Check if there are any settings related to battery charging or power management.
  3. Ensure that battery charging is enabled in the BIOS settings.

3. Reset Power Management Settings

  1. Open the Control Panel on your laptop.
  2. Go to Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  3. Reset power management settings to default by clicking on "Restore plan defaults" or "Reset to default."

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Shut down your laptop and disconnect all external devices.
  2. Remove the laptop battery, if possible (consult your laptop's manual for instructions).
  3. Press and hold the power button for at least 15-20 seconds.
  4. Reinsert the battery (if removed) and reconnect the power cord.
  5. Turn on your laptop and check if the battery starts charging.

5. Update BIOS and Drivers

  1. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS firmware and drivers for your HP Envy x360 laptop.
  2. Install the BIOS firmware and driver updates following the instructions provided on the HP website.Run Hardware Diagnostics
  3. HP laptops often come with built-in hardware diagnostics tools.
  4. Restart your laptop and access the diagnostics tool by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually Esc or F2).
  5. Run the hardware diagnostics to check for any issues with the battery or power system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the response. There were some other issues so I have returned the machine to the vendor.
