Hi !
I need to downgrade the bios to reinstall all versions to the latest bios , to solve problems i am having !
I did this in the past and it worked !
Win + B , buttons work , and the bios recovery screen shows up.
However, i get the message that the bios files were not found.
What files should be in the recovery bios usb drive ?
the ones from the oldest bios? , others? which?
i tried creating 3 or 4 different bios recovery usb matching this laptop model, but they are not recognized in win+B downgrade screen !
thank you for your help !

Hi @Supermalha,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Downgrading the BIOS on a laptop can be a risky process and should be done carefully to avoid potential issues. Before attempting to downgrade the BIOS, it's important to understand the potential risks and whether the downgrade is necessary for resolving the problems you're experiencing.
If you've already decided to proceed with the downgrade and you're facing issues with the recovery process, here are some general steps you can follow. Keep in mind that these steps may vary depending on the laptop model, and it's crucial to refer to your laptop's specific documentation for accurate instructions.
Download the BIOS Files:
- Visit the official support website of your laptop's manufacturer.
- Locate the BIOS section for your specific laptop model.
- Download the BIOS files for the version you want to downgrade to.
Extract the BIOS Files:
- Extract the downloaded BIOS files to a folder on your computer.
Prepare the USB Drive:
- Format a USB drive to FAT32.
- Create a folder on the USB drive and name it "HP_TOOLS."
- Inside the "HP_TOOLS" folder, create another folder named "HEWLETT-PACKARD."
- Copy the extracted BIOS files into the "HEWLETT-PACKARD" folder.
Perform the BIOS Recovery:
- Ensure your laptop is powered off.
- Insert the USB drive into a USB port.
- Press and hold the Windows key and the B key simultaneously.
- While holding the keys, press the power button to turn on the laptop.
- Continue holding the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update process begins.
Troubleshooting:
- If you're still facing issues, try using a different USB drive.
- Make sure the BIOS files are placed in the correct folder structure.
- Confirm that the BIOS files are compatible with your laptop model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello, @Alden4 !
Thank you for your quick answer !
I am sorry i only returned to the forum today !
I was looking to try the solution you provided and if i had some issue, to report it !
i have already followed the steps provided but, i still get the popup screen saying :
The Bios recovery files cannot be found or the files are corrupted.
My steps : 1) Downloaded the bios from the hp support page of the laptop model :
HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V9AV) -- Product number 5A9K5EA .
2) Ran the install file and chose the save the bios to disk ( "0887A.bin" - 16384 Kbytes and "0887A.sig" -
1 kbyte, instead of creating recovery bios usb. Tried with version f.02, current bios is f.31
3) Formatted a USB drive (Kingston 32 GB) to FAT32 and labeled the volume "HP_TOOLS"
4) Created a folder named "HEWLETT-PACKARD"
5) Copied the bios files from the saved folder to this folder ("HEWLETT-PACKARD")
6)Turned pc off, plugged to AC power, inserted USB drive
7) Pressed win + b, power for 2 seconds, win+b
I repeated the procedure with 2 other usb drives ( 3 total) : "kingston datatraveler 100 G3 32 Gb " usb3
"kingston DTSE 9 G2 32 GB " usb3
" Sandisk 64 gb" usb 3
Still getting that popup screen :
The Bios recovery files cannot be found or the files are corrupted.
with a Qrcode in the bottom right screen that links to a "not found page"
Any further support would be kindly appreciated !!
Best Regards,
@Supermalha
