My HP 15-ac004nl laptop shows a blinking Caps Lock light when I power it on.

I believe I need to recover the BIOS using a USB key, but I can't find the latest official BIOS file. i dowloaded the file as per this post: Bios for 15-ac004nl - HP Support Community - 9472236 with a Bios: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp96501-97000/sp96831.exe but i obtain Error 500 at end of the process. what's wrong? how i can fix?

SP 96831(F.29) you just tried is a newest BIOS file for your model.

The '500' error is a BIOS recovery error. I don't know what went wrong with your BIOS recovery attempt.

My suggestion: try a hard reset to clear the memory. Click the link below for how to do it. Then try a BIOS recovery with the F.29 file.

If you still have the issue, try older BIOS versions shown below.

F.28

F.27

Release notes for sp96831 (F.29) state that it supersedes sp 93116 (F.28), and F.28 release notes say F.28 supersedes F.27. I thought those older versions would be compatible with your model.

If you already tried a power reset, try a CMOS reset.

If this doesn't work and you already attempted a BIOS recovery in a way that is described in the above document, my only other suggestion is to remove a residual charge off of the motherboard completely and try a BIOS update again. To do this you need to remove the charger and external battery, open the case, remove a CMOS battery and press the power button to drain a residual charge.

This may be a lot of work for you and the fix is not guaranteed. Your other options would be to have a computer repair shop reflash the BIOS or replace the motherboard, but either option may be expensive and may not be cost effective, as your notebook is an older model.

If you want to open the case, let me know and I can find a service manual for you.
