How long after letting go of the windows and B key should something appear on the screen?

HP Recommended

@Stockhunter It should appear either right before you release or shortly after. Try holding the keys to see if anything ever appears. If your BIOS is badly corrupted the BIOS recovery will likely not fix it.

i tried it over 100 times...holding 5 seconds or 10 seconds or even upto 3 minutes all failed. recovery bios usb made using HP recovery software also failed..just black screen and blinking caps lock two times repetitively...eventually i followed the HP q&a help guide and it basically said in the end "if it doesnt work....then...bring it to service" . i wasted hours and hours to try recover from a bad HP bios update i downloaded from HP site which was correct HP bios for my device. I thought the HP recovery bios boot usb i made would help me ..it did nothing...and as I said this is the second time an hp bios update bricked my laptop. in future i will never trust the bios updates for my HP.....and I have done literally hundreds of bios updates since 30yrs ago when we were building our own computers. I Only had trouble with HP and Lenovo. (Lenovo really bad). My laptop in service now and I am not happy because my warranty expired and the latest bios upgrade bricked my laptop. I hope HP will stop people downloading the bios upgrades until this serious problem is fixed...its not fair if our warranty expired and then an update available from HP that says its for your device ruins your laptop thus forcing people to buy new ones or pay an arm and a leg for service....i seen a few people online selling their bricked HPs as scrap now because they unable to boot after a bad HP update from HP site, after their HP warranty. I loved my HP Envy and was thinking of getting a new one after this but this sudden bios upgrade boot fail thing has made me think twice... so I genuinely hope HP finds a solution to this and helps those affected until the HP laptop updates system/architecture are improved and the upgrade bios software made more robust. for me, I paid alot of money for my HP Envy j021tx at that time. and for me, the HP bios update was a bad update made available by HP . So i will not make the same mistake again if its not fixed. For now my personal opinion to anyone thinking of bios update is save your time and to not upgrade any HP bios 'unless' you still have full warranty and unless you have alot of time to waste. its not worth it until they fix it all.

Nothing has worked for me and no warranty left either. Paid $700.00 for this laptop 4 years ago and it was working fantastic until I choose to say yes to the bios upgrade. HP should be paying for the service fee to have this repaired since it was there software that turned my laptop into a brick.  HP, please contact me and tell me what the next step is for you to correct my issue. Thank you

No reply from HP when I mention "please contact me and tell me what the next step is for you to correct my issue", what a shame. I've owned over 20 laptops and printers from HP. My days of buying or recommending an HP product are over. Thank you HP for not solving my issue. Goodbye HP, best of luck with the company.

Totally agree been quoted over £300 after their bios bricked my device. A brand new board is only £95 on eBay. Its clear this is akin to a kill switch and is deliberatly done to punish those who dare to buy 2nd hand. No warning whatsover on bios upgrade page about what might happen. I expected a quote of max £90. But 300. Thanks for mugging me off HP
Surely ofcom or some one can do something about this fraud
