HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 (2D120AV)

I updated my computer this morning and now it boot to a boot bit locker blue page that says enter recovery key to get going again. Once I enter the recovery key it just keeps booting back to this blue page. Am I able to recover without losing installed programs?

Hi @SammySanDiego

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

If your HP Laptop PC is prompting for a BitLocker recovery key and keeps returning to the recovery screen, here are some steps you can take to try to resolve the issue without losing your installed programs:

Verify Recovery Key:

  • Make sure you’re entering the correct BitLocker recovery key. You can find this key in your Microsoft account under Devices or in the printout or saved file from when you enabled BitLocker.

Access Advanced Startup Options:

  • If you can get to the recovery screen, look for an option to access Advanced Options. From there, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.

Use Startup Repair:

  • In the Advanced Options, select Startup Repair. This may fix any boot issues without affecting your files or installed programs.

Command Prompt:

  • From the Advanced Options, select Command Prompt. You can use this to run some commands that might help:
    • Type bootrec /fixmbr and press Enter.
    • Then type bootrec /fixboot and press Enter.
    • Finally, type bootrec /rebuildbcd and press Enter.
  • Restart your laptop after running these commands.

Check BitLocker Status:

  • If you can access Command Prompt, you can check the BitLocker status by typing manage-bde -status to see if there are any issues with the drive.

System Restore:

  • If Startup Repair doesn’t work, consider performing a System Restore from the Advanced Options if you have a restore point set up.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • You can also try to boot into Safe Mode from the Advanced Options and see if that allows you to access your system without entering the recovery key.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
