My bitlocker keeps showing up on booting the computer. I suspended the bitlocker and now it will not resume. I get an error message that bitlocker drive encryption is already preforming an operation on this drive

Hi @cbradbury,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your concern on how it must feel to run into repeated BitLocker issues. Thank you for sharing the details you’ve already taken some good steps by suspending BitLocker.

Could you please share the exact HP model of your computer?

Here are a few  steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. Check BIOS settings: Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 during startup). Ensure that TPM is enabled and set to “Active.”
  2. Update BIOS: Outdated BIOS firmware can cause communication issues with TPM. Visit HP’s support website https://support.hp.com/  for your model and install the latest BIOS update.
  3. Clear TPM: In Windows, open tpm.msc → Clear TPM. This resets the TPM and often resolves communication errors. (Note: You may need your BitLocker recovery key before doing this.)
  4. Resume BitLocker: Once TPM is stable, try resuming BitLocker from the Control Panel  (with admin rights).
  5. Run HP Support Assistant: This tool can automatically detect and fix firmware or driver issues.

You can also refer to this article discussed on the same concern :Error 0x80310059: BitLocker drive encryption is already performing an operation on this drive  - Click here .

I hope this helps.
