Storing a BitLocker Recovery Key for HP 17 Laptop PC 17-c2000

Windows BitLocker encryption can help protect your data by encrypting the hard drive and preventing unauthorized access. Here are instructions on how to back up the BitLocker recovery key for your HP 17 Laptop PC 17-c2000:

Search for BitLocker:

  • In Windows, search for and open "Manage BitLocker".

Back Up Your Recovery Key:

  • In the BitLocker Drive Encryption window, find the drive that is encrypted with BitLocker, and click "Back up your recovery key".

Select a Backup Method:

Choose how you want to back up your recovery key. You can save it to your Microsoft account, save it to a file, or print the recovery key.

Saving to a Microsoft Account:

  • If you choose this option, follow the instructions to save the recovery key to your Microsoft account for easy access online.

Saving to a File:

  • If you prefer to save the key to a file, select the folder where you want to save it on a different drive (not the encrypted one), and then click "Save".

Printing the Key:

  • If you choose to print the key, select a printer and print the recovery key. This will allow you to keep a physical copy in a safe place.

Store the Recovery Key Safely:

  • Make sure to store the recovery key in a secure location. If you saved it to a file, ensure the file is protected and backed up. If you printed it, keep the printout in a secure place, such as a locked drawer.

Confirm the Backup:

  • Once you have backed up your recovery key using your chosen method, click "Finish".

Following these steps will help ensure you can recover access to your encrypted data if needed.

Important Considerations

  • Ensure the recovery key is stored in more than one safe location.
  • Avoid storing the recovery key on the same drive that is encrypted.
