The problem: Screen remains black after pressing startbutton, leds lit, vent runs, no boot
What happens:
Pressing start button, startbutton led is on
Powerled on front side is on
Ventilator starts running
CAPS LOCK and NUMLOCK leds go on very shortly then go off and remains off
Volume mute led is on (orange)
Volume higher/lower leds are on (white)
rewind/pause/start/forward leds are on (white)
Wireless led is on (orange)
Touchpad led is on
Screen stays black all the time.
No booting, no HDD leds
This status remains, nothing happens anymore
After Shutting down via on/off button (holding few seconds) and trying again with same result
However!!!!!, sometimes the laptops boots and all is fine. This is once every 20 or 30 attempts
When Laptop started I tested the HW via BIOS and all was fine, no errors.
When restarting via Windows, no problems
When shutting down (power off) and pressing startbutton same problem starts over.
I allready did HW reset (15 secs button press without power and battery)
What could be the problem? What can I do more?

Hi @Mistered_HSF,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the computer does not boot into Windows anymore. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
In the meantime, let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the Notebook:
Step 1: Performing a hard reset
Step 2: Connecting an external monitor to test the display
The notebook screen display might remain black when there is a corrupted graphics driver or a problem with the LCD display backlight. To test the display, attach an external monitor and restart the computer. Testing with an external display is helpful if the notebook display is black but you can hear sounds; such as fans, spinning drives, or beep tones that indicate the computer is operating.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to Run a System diagnostics test as well as an extensive test on the Hard drive and Memory from F2 (Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).
If all test pass turns off the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

For more assistance, please follow all the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boo...
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Dear Jeet,
Thank you for your support. I followed the steps you mentioned, here the results:
Step 1: Performing a hard reset
Result: Performed this step several times, unfortunately without positive result
Step 2: Connecting an external monitor to test the display
Result: When the laptop does not start I also see nothing on the external monitor. When (after 34 attempts pressing the start button to start and stop) the laptop boots then the laptop screen and the external screen both work fine and shows Windows after complete boot. So, when starting the laptop and it "hangs" directly with only the led's and vent on as mentioned before, the laptop does not boot further and both screens remain dark.
Step 3: System Diagnostics
Result: Same as Step 2: when the laptop "hangs"directly after the led's and vent turn on I am not able to enter the BIOS with F2 or F10 and have to do the procedure over and over again with power button off and on. At some point (after 30 to 40 attempts) the Laptop reacts and boots and I am able to press F2 to do Diagnostics. After doing so I performed:
F2 Start-up Test
F3 Run-In Test
Both give no problems. Memory Test and Primary + Secondary Hard Disk Test will Pass. So no Failure ID available.
Other Steps, what did I do more:
Removed both Hard Disks
Removed both Memory chips
Both together and sepearatly
Just to see if anything would happen (like error message because of missing memory or so)
When starting up still the laptop does not go ahead with booting and shows a dark screen. After several attempts it boots, shows startup at screen and obviously let's me know it has no memory or no Boot device.
Inserted all memory and HDD's again and after several attempts (getting sore finger due to pressing power button on and off all the time) the laptop booted and shows Windows. When rebooting from Windows the Laptops starts fine all the time. When turning off I won't get it on before trying many times.
Instead of turning off the Laptop I pressed the sleep button (Fn F5) to see what happens. Here the same problem is happening and several attempts needed to boot.
Some more info which might come in handy:
Product number: WA171EA#ABH
System Board ID: 363A
Processor: AMD Turion II dial-core Mobile M520
BIOS version: F.13
BIOS vendor: Insyde
Serial Number: CNF0065MNS
Hopefully someone have some ideas left 🙂
Kind regards,
Eddy

Hello,
It took some time to get the laptop booting (took me 57 times in pressing power button on and off...) but finally I was able to test your proposal.
Unfortunately the BIOS recovery did not solve the problem.
I hope there are more suggestions to find and solve the problem.
Thanks and kind regards,
Ed
