HP Pavilion 17-e049wm Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

First off I'm pretty sure I have the operating system correct.

I had an almost identical problem as this thread here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Black-screen-after-Preparing-au.... I ran the system check under system diagnostics like they did. However I have a different error code. That, and because it gave multiple hard drive checks (this is the only one that failed) I cannot tell if I have the same problem or not.

Hard Drive Short DST Check : FAILED

FAILURE ID : 6BXETL-6MA9N4-MFPWWJ-60Q203

PROJECT ID : E0J75UA#ABA

The one who assisted the person with a similar issue to mine said: "The provided code confirms HDD issue and also tells me that your warranty is active until August 10, 2018 (or around that time)." As such it seems the code confirmed the HDD issue, and since I have a different code it could be a different issue entirely (though it could be a different warranty timing as well). I am wanting to know if I have the same issue as this other person, if so I know what needs to be done; or of I have a different issue entirely, and if that is the case, then what do i need to have done?

Please help. Thank you.

Hi:

Yes, you will need to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

The error code is different because with in that code, it provides the notebook serial number, which is different than yours.

You may want to consider purchasing a better performing, normally more reliable solid state drive (SSD).

After you replace the hard drive, you can reinstall W10 for free by using the media creation tool.

You will be able to create a bootable USB W10 installer. You will need an 8 GB flash drive for this.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page...

Thank you very much, this was helpful. I was expecting that this might be the result and I wanted confirmation. Now I know how I need to proceed.

Again, thanks :).
