HP Touchsmart 15-r141 Slim Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had the laptop update and shut down. In the morning, I turned the computer on and allowed it to go thru the process of finishing and installing. Oddly enough that took a lot longer than normal. Several hours. Finally when it finished all seemed normal but about an hour later the computer shut itself down.

When you hit the on button, the reddish light at F12 comes on as well as a slow blinking light at caps lock. Sometimes I can hear the fan etc. when I turn it on, sometimes not.

I have tried hard reset many times.

Ihave tried F2 many times

I have tried F8 many times

I have tried F9 many times

I have tried F10 many times

I have tried F12 many times

I have vacuumed everything out.

I have only had this laptop about 3 years old which is really not that old. I had to have it completely reloaded with everything when it was just over a year old. I am not happy at all that yet again I am having issues with this laptop.

@nobear1959,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with the computer no longer boots into Windows after the recent windows update. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

Have you tried to use an external keyboard?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Next thing, I would suggest you try to use an external keyboard and check if you are able to boot the computer into F2, F10 or F11.

If the computer does not start, the LED lights do not glow, and the display is black,

you can perform one or more of the following actions to resolve the no power issue:

(Click on the blue letters to get more details about each step)

  1. Examine the adapter and power cord for physical damage

  2. Test the power from the AC wall outlet to the notebook connector

  3. Start computer using the battery only

  4. Check that the lid switch moves freely

  5. When you have completed the troubleshooting steps, there should be power available to the computer. When you press the power button, the LEDs should glow, and you should hear the sounds of the fan and the hard drive spinning.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

I already told you that the only thing that occurred was a Windows update. And that was completed approximately an hour before my computer shut down never to boot again. No new hardware.

Yes I have done a hard reset many times.

Yes I have tried using an external  No change

I have tried F2, F8, F10, F11 and F12 both with the installed keyboard and an external keyboard.

Went thru the pages that you linked to the message. Nothing has changed or improved the situation.

Same lights are on as previously.

As stated, I have already had this computer repairedand everything reloaded when it was just over a year old. I have never had issues with HP's but I think this one is not up to snuff. I should not have to be looking for a new laptop to replace a 3 yr old computer.

Sorry to hear it. I know I am pretty frustrated. Especially since my old HP laptop is my backup and 6 hours after the first laptop went down the 2nd shut itself down. Now it will not finish booting up. GRRRRRRRRRR
