  • My laptop started booting up weirdly. It shows a black screen, then the fan turns on for like 1 to 5 minutes then the hp logo finally appears and starts loading up for another minute or so.  My laptop has an ssd and used to turn on in seconds now it takes so long . What could be the issue and how do I fix it . I've run the diagnostic and everything work's well. The fast start up is off .
  • Also the issue began after an update though it mighty be unrelated.  I tried to uninstall the update but it didn't appear on the lists of updates

Hi @Star_yzen

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand how concerning this is, especially since the notebook previously started within seconds and the issue began after an update.

Since the system remains on a black screen for 1–5 minutes before the HP logo appears, the delay appears to be occurring during the pre-boot/BIOS hardware initialization stage rather than during normal Windows startup. Although the HP hardware diagnostics have passed, I recommend checking the BIOS and startup configuration first.

Please try the following:

Perform hard reset.

  • Shut down the notebook completely.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and all external USB devices, SD cards, docking stations, etc.
  • Press and hold the Power button for approximately 15 seconds.
  • Connect the AC adapter and turn the notebook on.

Check whether the delay also occurs inside BIOS.

  • Turn the notebook off.
  • Power it on and repeatedly press Esc until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Select F10 – BIOS Setup.
  • Exit BIOS and restart the notebook.
  • Observe whether the same long black-screen/fan period occurs before the HP logo.

Check for a BIOS update.

  • Use the exact HP product number to check the HP Support website for the latest BIOS available for this model.
  • If a newer BIOS is available, install it according to HP's instructions.
  • Because the problem occurs before Windows loads, BIOS/firmware is particularly worth checking.

Test Windows Safe Mode.
If the HP logo appears normally after the above steps but Windows itself remains slow, test Safe Mode. If startup becomes normal in Safe Mode, a Windows driver or startup service is more likely to be involved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
