HP ENVY Laptop 13-ba1000 (1F4D9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I am trying to help a friend.

After running the latest updates from within Windows 11, on the above notebook (HP ENVY 13-ba 561sa), the notebook stated that a restart was required, which we did.

It then appears to power on (light on the power button lights), but then a black screen.

Sometimes, after a considerable delay, we hear some musical tones.

At no point do we see the HP logo, or spinning circle of dots

We have tried:

1)Forced power off. then restart - same - black screen.

2)Holding down WinKey and B, then holding down power button for 2 seconds, then releasing power button, whilst keeping the other kets depressed - black screen.

3)Tried to boot into BIOS - i.e. by pressing Esc, F10, etc,  - unable to get into BIOS screen

Question: If I can't get to BIOS to change boot sequence, how can we resolve this?

(I can create installable media, if necessary, on my own PC.)

Thank you,

Mark

Hi, @Mark396 really sorry to hear what happened. Windows 11 is still in early development so it is advised that we be patient before upgrading due to challenges such as driver issues, software, and hardware problems associated with Windows 11.

A smart choice right now will be to use Windows 10 at least until Windows 11 has been properly fixed up.

Since your laptop is still working well, visit this website and download Windows 10 and create a media creation tool most likely on a USB Stick.

Here is a little trick to get into the BIOS on an HP

Start tapping the Esc key BEFORE starting the PC and then press the start button.
Keep tapping the Esc key until a popup menu shows. Then pick F9 to see the boot menu, to change the boot device.

Thank you for the reply, Charlie, but it does not address the problem!

The notebook is NOT working well! As I stated, it does not start. The laptop has been running Windows 11 for many months, and has been behaving reasonably well, until it tries to do the updates. This has occured frequently.

It is NOT working well now - it has a BLACK screen, and does not boot.

Lets start with running the Diagnostics routine.

To run the Diagnostics routine, start tapping the Esc key and then press the start button.
Keep tapping the Esc key until a popup menu shows. Then pick Diagnostics from that popup menu, F2.
Report back with the results.

I did a symptom test on boot related issues,  a extensive systeme test and components test on the processor.

and everything is good and is marked past or ok

I am going to look at the the laptop again today, and try the "tapping Esc key before pressing the Power button" suggestion

Thanks all for suggestions. If i can't get to BIOS screen, I have no idera what to do next, But I will get back to this thread.

Just saw your reply, FrankyFreed - same happenoing here, now, after trying the WINKey and B and power on, the fan comes on for a few seconds then off, and repeats - fan off and on again.

Also, tapping ESC and continuing to tap ESC during power on and still tapping, does nothing - still black screen.

Thanks, TheOldMan, for your idea. Unfortunately, not worked, no BIOS screen or options, no change.
