Sorry - @Mark396 , @FrankyFreed

I'm out of ideas.  If the trick to get into the BIOS does not stop the process, then there is something definitely wrong, possibly a hardware failure.

Mark - since you item is a laptop, it might be that a local computer tech has some experience to find the solution.

Franky - what is the model number of your PC?

So, a bit of progress as follows:

Pictures are not in order, so I hope you can follow along.

I've purchased a USB C to HDMI adapter, and managed to see what is happening during boot, using an external monitor.

What seems to happen is that the HP logo appears, then a brief white circle spin, which doesn't complete, then a freeze, then the external monitor says no signal detected. However, this is progress, as we have got past black screen, and I have managed to get to Diagnostics, and run the test - see attached.

I then managed to get to Recovery options - tried Start-up Repair - didn't work.

Tried System Restore

I found a System Restore point, and all seemed to proceed  OK  - see photo attached

However, on reboot, boot failed, and black screen, both on laptop and external monitor.

Then, did a cold reboot, and got sucess on the external monitor, as shown.

still nothing on built-in screen

Since all the diagnostics come back as passed, that is a good start.

I might ask about the restore point, however.  The date is 09/05/22 - assuming that was before the problem started?

Also assuming since you are in UK that is May 9, 2022.

It would seem the driver for the display or the display has failed, since you are getting an external to work.

Just curious, did the BIOS get updated to the version below? either before or after the Windows 11 update

F.31 Rev.A22.9 MBApr 15, 2022

Getting deeper and deeper into this, all using external monitor, by the way. Still nothing on the inbuilt display.

Thank you for continued thoughts, TheOldMan

I am getting a repeated failure on updating the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver, see photo.IMG_2062.JPG

Also Windows Update attempted some updates, ran into an error!

On restart, again external monitor, various update errors, see photo

After that,  Windows Update is trying to do Cumulative Update KB5013943 - waiting to see what happens.
