Example: Pavilion 17z-ar000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was on my laptop and then it froze. No changes made unless I got a virus. I did a hard reboot and upon logging back in received the Boot Device Not Found error. I ran the quick hard disk test and it errored out as no boot device installed. When I exit the system diagnostics, I return to the Boot Device Not Found screen. It also notes Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3F0). I attempted to open restore (starts to show open attempt in the bottom left corner), even after another hard reboot and following the F11 continuous select (also did the start menu button while holding shift and restart) but it appears I can only access the error screen and system diagnostics. I’m at a loss here since it happened so fast and would appreciate an assist before I do something crazy to my relatively new laptop.

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. They can fail quickly with no warning although sometimes you will notice poor performance shortly before. If you are still in warranty HP will replace it. Are you still within the 1 yr warranty?

If you need Recovery Media to install Windows on the new drive it is available on your Support page. Last item in the list of drivers/software:

Or-if you prefer not ordering-your Windows 10 license key is embedded in BIOS and you can reinstall Windows without HP Recovery Media. Microsoft provides the free Media Creation Tool to download files and create a Windows 10 usb flash drive.Advantage is you will have latest updated version of Windows 10. At least 8gb flash drive required:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Select Download tool now,Save it,then Run.
If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit) for Windows 10.
The Guide here shows the steps.Pay attention to Step 5 since you will be using another pc:
