My laptop was not working so I did tests on it and got a failure ID. I was told this ID meant my hard drive had gone bad and needed to be replaced. So I bought the hard drive that was recommended to me and installed it using the directions recommended to me and now when I turn on my computer it says no bootable device. I don't know what this means or how to fix it.

Try restoring the BIOS back to Factory Defaults

 

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.

  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.

  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.

  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.

  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?

  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Please run a Hard drive Test to confirm the Hardware Functionality

 

- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the Notebook.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. 
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Hard drive

I've done all of the system and hard drive tests. Even the extensive ones and they all come back fine. No error codes or anything.

In this scenario, the next option would be to reinstall the Operating system. 

 

I would suggest you could try to use HP Cloud Recovery Tool which allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive.

 

If this option does not work then you can follow this link: HP PCs - Obtaining PC Recovery USB Drives or Discs Or else you may contact our HP support team to help you order a set of recovery media for your PC.
