My problems started when Windows 11 started acting funny. So then I tried a few times to reinstall Windows from my USB flash drive. Things went from bad to worse when UEFI did not recognise my hdd, even though I can run the boot diagnostics on the hdd, and everything else too, and everything checks out perfectly. And then, it even stopped seeing my USB ports.
I am pulling my hair out! Can anyone help?

Hi @TheArteeest,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot the problem.
Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Restart your notebook and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, ESC, or DEL during startup).
- Make sure that your HDD is recognized in the BIOS/UEFI. If it isn't, check the connections to ensure the HDD is properly seated.
- Ensure that the USB ports are enabled. Look for options related to USB Configuration and make sure they are set to enabled.
Reset BIOS/UEFI to Defaults:
- In the BIOS/UEFI settings, find the option to reset to default settings. This can sometimes resolve detection issues by reverting any incorrect changes made.
Update BIOS/UEFI Firmware:
- Check HP's support website for any BIOS/UEFI firmware updates for your model. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve detection issues.
Check Physical Connections:
- Power off your notebook and disconnect it from any power source.
- Open the back panel (if you're comfortable doing so) and check the physical connections of the HDD and any internal cables.
Test the USB Ports:
- If USB ports are not working, try different USB devices or different USB ports to see if any are responsive.
- Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI setting related to USB legacy support and ensure it is enabled.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Power off your notebook and disconnect it from the power source.
- Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds to perform a hard reset. This can sometimes clear out any lingering issues.
Test with Different USB Flash Drive:
- Try using a different USB flash drive with the Windows installation media. The issue might be with the USB drive itself.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- If none of the above steps work, there might be a hardware issue with your HDD or motherboard.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
